Stainless Steel Pipe

321 Stainless Steel Pipe

This is an austenitic stainless steel that is chemically similar to 304 but is stabilized with Titanium. The addition of Titanium (at least five times the carbon content) ties up the carbon, preventing the formation of chromium carbides when the material is exposed to the sensitization temperature range (427°C to 816°C / 800°F to 1500°F). This stabilization makes the material highly resistant to intergranular corrosion after welding, without requiring post-weld annealing. It also offers higher creep and stress rupture properties compared to 304. 321 pipe is essential for applications requiring both the general corrosion resistance of 304 and superior resistance to intergranular attack and stress corrosion cracking at high service temperatures. Primary uses include aircraft piston engine exhaust stacks and manifolds, thermal oxidizers, expansion joints, refinery equipment, high-temperature chemical process equipment, and steam boiler tubing.
